Borussia Dortmund have had a very up and down season so far, but some of the ups have been truly special and will be remembered for years to come.
Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich faced off in the curtain-raiser for the Bundesliga campaign at the Westfalenstadion back in August. And the Black and Yellows showed that they are ready to take the fight to their Bavarian rivals this season with a near complete performance to win the DFL Supercup.
Despite being without a number of key players through injuries, Dortmund were the better team for the majority of the game. They defended well and looked dangerous on almost every counter attack.
Their patience was rewarded in the 48th minute when Paco Alcacer found the bottom corner with fine strike from the edge of the box. Jadon Sancho then sealed the victory by scoring past Manuel Neuer after an excellent run from his own half.
It was the dream start to the season for Borussia Dortmund, as they won their first trophy of the Lucien Favre era, and threw down the gauntlet ahead of the Bundesliga season.
