Borussia Dortmund to restart with reduced training on Monday

Borussia Dortmund will resume training on Monday with the team split up in pairs of two to reduce their contact with one another.

Borussia Dortmund and the Bundesliga are still on hold until at least April 30th but Dortmund are set to resume a version of team training. It won’t be back to training as usual as players will be split up into pairs to train a safe distance away from each other.

With everything going on in the world right now, Borussia Dortmund players are lucky to even get that close to a normal training session. Emre Can was interviewed and expressed how much he and the squad missed the social contact and how excited he is to get back with the squad. Can will be paired up with Mahmoud Dahoud for training on Monday.

“It’s important that we go back to the field. It doesn’t get boring. Tt will be very, very difficult. We still have direct duels with Bayern and Leipzig. We have a good squad, it won’t be easy. But I think yes, that it is still possible.”

Emre Can also touched on the importance of the players role in all of this. The players have foregone 20% of their salary as long as play is suspended to help make sure no other Dortmund employees suffer any drop in wages. Not only that, Marco Reus started an initiative to help raise funds for small businesses in Dortmund. Can feels they have an obligation to help in these times.

“We have a responsibility. We make a lot of money and want to give something back.” – Emre Can.

Although it is pretty unlikely the Bundesliga is going to return anytime soon it’s still a massive boost for players to be able to get back to training and being around the squad. After weeks of isolation, seeing teammates even at a small distance is going to lift spirits. Hopefully this is just the first step in many to get us back to playing football.
