Match Preview: Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin

This is one of the tightest Bundesliga seasons in recent year. With only four points separating the second and fifth the race for top four is well and truly on. 

A failure to secure this would confirm a disastrous season for everyone associated with Dortmund.  

However, Dortmund did bounce back from defeat to Bayern with a comprehensive 6-1 win at Paderborn. With a 0-0 scoreline at half time, BVB turned up the intensity to earn a well-deserved victory.

With star striker Håland missing the game with injury, Jadon Sancho stepped up to score a hattrick. This was the perfect performance to bounce back to winning way.

Saturday saw Hertha Berlin continue their great form since the restart winning 2-0 at home against Augsburg. A goal in either half courtesy of Dilrosun and Piatek was enough to secure all three points. The away side will go into this game looking to move a step close to a Europa League qualification spot. 

The reverse fixture at the Olympiastadion between these two saw Dortmund come away with all three points winning 2-1.

The last four games between these two sides have not disappointed with both teams scoring in those games. In three of those fixtures, both teams have scored in the first half.

Both sides will be looking to end the season on high by qualifying for European competitions. Could this then be one of the games of the season with so much to play for?

The latest injury news for Dortmund sees Håland miss another game with the knee injury he picked up against Bayern. 

Mats Hummels will miss this weekend’s fixture due to suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card this season. This could see Emre Can play in the back with for Dortmund with boss Lucien Favre a fan of his distribution. 

The main concern for Hertha Berlin is the concussion injury to Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian is still recovering, and this may be a game too soon for the winger.
