Thomas Meunier will join Dortmund on a four-year-deal once his contract with Paris St Germain expires on June 30th.
German outlet Bild has been the first to report that the Belgian international will move to the Signal Iduna Park.
The PSG right-back had been heavily linked with Tottenham all summer. The Daily Standard had reported last month that Spurs were ready to make a move for the right-back.
Thomas Meunier joins teammate Edinson Cavani in deciding against signing a short term extension to play in the Champions League. PSG have made it into the quarter-finals of the competition after knocking out Dortmund 3-2 on aggregate.
The Belgian will now join up with his new side when pre-season starts new month ahead of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.
This move does bring into question the future of right-back Achraf Hakimi. The Moroccan right-back is coming to end of his two-year loan move from Real Madrid. The German side had hoped that with Dani Carvajal seen as Madrid’s number one right back that another loan deal could be struck. The signing of another right-back for BVB could be an indication of Hakimi’s future.
The signing of Thomas Meunier could be one of the smartest pieces of business this summer. He arrives after winning three straight Ligue 1 titles and one Coupe de France.
